The scene as Zavi Crisóstomo finished his 100-mile running challenge looked like the finish line of a race: a crowd, enthusiastically chanting his name, lined the last leg of the run.
Well, there were some differences: The crowd members cheering on Zavi tended to be much shorter than the people you’d find at a typical race. And a clump of boys in the audience nearly missed the climactic moment because they were busy ogling a particularly large worm crossing the sodden grass.
Which wasn’t too surprising considering that the crowd was mostly Zavi’s classmates at Lincoln Elementary School, which has a new 100-mile club this year. Zavi, a fifth-grader, hit the 100-mile mark Monday afternoon, the first kid at the school to accomplish the goal this year.
