Dual Immersion Program
The goal of language immersion is for students to become proficient in a second language and develop an increased cultural awareness. While learning a second language when they are young, students also develop greater flexibility in the way they think, better problem-solving skills, and a better grasp and understanding of their own native language. Dual Immersion is an inclusive program for children of all ability levels.
How It Works
The curriculum is the same as is taught in non-immersion classrooms. All students are held to the same academic standards when it comes to reading, writing, math, and science. The difference is that the instruction in an immersion classroom is 70% in Spanish and 30% in English for kindergarten and 1st grades, and 50% in Spanish and 50% in English for 2nd through 5th grades. Classes include a balanced group of native Spanish speakers and native English speakers, heritage speakers, and speakers of other languages.
Dual Immersion is an inclusive program for children of all ability levels. The program requires student and parent interest and commitment.
